SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

RECORD NUMBER IN 2009

At the 89^th annual PAWNE Golf Tournament this year, 8 students were presented with scholarships which can be used toward any college expense. These scholarships are possible only because of the generous support of our business sponsors and volunteers. It has been gratifying to receive notes of appreciation from these deserving students.

Here are this year’s winners:

Danielle Buxton, daughter of Janice and Steven Buxton, graduated from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School. She has been accepted to several colleges at the time of this printing and plans to pursue a major in Hotel/Restaurant Management. Her expected graduation date is 2013.

Christopher Feyre, son of Robin and Robert Feyre, graduated from Westfield High School and had not yet decided which college he would attend at the time of this printing. He intends to pursue a major in Athletic Training with a graduation date of 2013.

Andrea Merrill, daughter of Robert and Cindy Merrill, is in her second year of medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine after having graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts University. She expects to earn her M.D. in 2011.

Robert Murphy, Jr., son of Robert Sr. and Clare Murphy, is a freshman at Northeastern University. He is one of a select few who was accepted into his major, Biology. His expected graduation date is 2013.

Kristin Vaselacopoulos, daughter of Nick and Irene Vaselacopoulos, is a junior at UMass Amherst, currently participating in an exchange program at Cal State – Northridge. She is majoring in Communications with a minor in psychology. She will graduate in 2011.

Katherine Walachy, daughter of Michael and Mary McGovern Walachy, attends Westfield State College, majoring in Special Education and in Mathematics. Her graduation date is 2010.

Sarah Wallachy, daughter of Michael and Mary McGovern Walachy, attends Roger Williams University. She is majoring in Psychology with an expected graduation date of 2012..

Congratulations to all of these worthy recipients!

The Scholarship Committee and the Board of Directors of the Purchasing Management Association of Western New England are pleased to announce that we are continuing our practice of offering scholarships to our membership and their immediate families. These will be awarded at our annual Scholarship and Awards/Golf Banquet on June 15, 2010

We extend an invitation for interested candidates who meet the following criteria to apply by February 27, 2010.

· Applicant must be part of the immediate family, i.e., spouse, son, or daughter, of a Member or Associate Member of the Purchasing Management Association of Western New England, Incorporated.

· Applicant must have applied to be a full-time student at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university starting the following September and must provide proof of matriculation before Scholarship check is issued.

· Applicant must be available for an interview, which may or may not be required at the discretion of the committee.

· Selected applicants or a representative must be available to accept the scholarship at the annual awards dinner on June 15, 2010

The number and value of the scholarships awarded will be based on the number of applicants, academic achievement, community involvement and activities.

Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application and submit it with the following:

1. A cover letter.

2. Three letters of reference.

3. A copy of academic transcript.

Additional supporting documents are encouraged. Extra points will be given to students pursuing a career in business or procurement, for community involvement, and for parental participation in the organization.
